So What Should You Actually Do?

If your boiler is over 12 years old, the math is straightforward. A modern Vaillant runs at 92–94% efficiency. An old boiler probably sits at 75–80%. That's a 15–20% difference on every gas bill, every month, year after year.

And parts for older models are getting scarcer. Obsolete parts now mean two-to-three-week lead times. That's a lifetime when it's freezing.

So the answer isn't "keep fixing it and hope." The answer is: plan the replacement, choose the right unit, and don't wait for the 2 AM failure. One of the smartest things a customer ever told me: "I'd rather replace it in September than rush it in January."
